GOBS OF FUN!!!

Spent Saturday afternoon with my friends Dee, Harry, Jean, Debbie and Jerry and Susie making about 500 gobs for the Fall Harvest Gospel Music Festival. It is at Camp Harmony on Labor Day weekend. (The gobs are frozen after they are made.) We made Pumpkin, Chocolate, and Chocolate with Peanut butter filling. YUM YUM YUMMMMYY!!!!
Dee is a match maker, pairing up the tops and bottoms.
Here is the production line, filling and bagging the finished gobs.

*******

Speaking of gobs, Travis went with my Mom this morning to the Farmers Market at the Georgian Place in Somerset. The 4-H club helps out by carrying packages and they also sell refreshments. He had a few dollars in his pocket so he made a couple of purchases.. a pan of cinnamon rolls from the bakery, a honey comb, and the last thing he bought was not out on the counter, he had put it in the freezer... he told me he bought a "gobler" You know one of those chocolate things with the filling in the middle. I look in the freezer and I see a GOB! ACKKK!!!!

Take care!

P.S. My cards are done WOOOHOOOOO!!!!
I will post pics of every one's swap cards after I have mailed them out.

A Shed is Delivered!
(Hallelujah!!)

My DH has been wanting a shed for as long as he has lived here. We did have one of those aluminum ones from Sears, but the wind got it during a storm and it was just a BIG metal tumbleweed blowing across the field.
Travis thinks it is his new "cabin" I just think that it is a good thing to have and I am so glad that there is a place for all of his tools and paraphenalia. The hallelujah is because I will never have to wipe sawdust off of my kitchen table again. (Hopefully!)
I don't know, it is kinda cute, very roomy, I think I could get all my scrapping stuff in there alonge with a few friends... maybe I will take it for a scrapping shed like Stepanie over at Homegrown Hospitality... she calls hers a "Shead-Teau." I am thinking DH is not going to have that...LOL!

Super Stampers Seven!

Last evening was our first Stampers 7 Club meeting. I had such a good time! It was nice to spend some time crafting and visiting with Sharon and Aub, Barb, Tracy, and Kathy! I learned so many NEW things! The card above is a crayon resist technique. The areas on the green panel that are white were colored with a white crayon before we used a brayer to ink over the whole thing. TOOOO NIFTY!
This sweet little card is an explosion card, so it pops out all over the place when you pull the two sides. Snowflakes are one of my favorite images and I have a BUNCH of them, but these are REALLY nice ones!
Saved the best for last! This is a ceramic tile that can be used as a dry erase board! How cool is that! It is stamped with StazOn, heated, colored with Sharpies and heated again. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! (Did I mention that I love it??)
*******
We had great food too! Yummy taco dip, Butterscotch delight and Farmers Market dip from Tastefully Simple. Super YUMMMY!

Plum Crazy!
So, my cousin Amy tells me she loves these Stephanie Plum novels, written by Janet Evanovich. The book series is about her (mis)adventures as a novice bounty hunter. Dear Lord are they laugh out loud funny! The series is up to number fourteen at the moment. My friend Ruthann loaned me the entire series last Thursday and I am almost done with the third book already! So I have been busy reading away, not so much scrapping is getting done!

Bugs and Flowers

Sorry I missed a few days here. I was a busy girl with work and home and crafty stuff! Last evening was my CMC's crop at Berkey Church. WOW! What a crowd! I think there were about 30 people there.
These little beauties are the Make and Take page samples I made using the paper and stickers she gave as a "goodie" for attending.
I absolutely LOVE laser cut stickers. They are so intricate and delicate, and GORGEOUS!
I also was loving my large square shape maker, as you can probably tell. I tried to keep the pages simple and pretty and easy. The stickers alone are so beautiful that they did not need a bunch of fussy stuff.
*******
This note is for my Christmas Cards in July swappers~ I got Sharon's cards yesterday, so she is getting a little something special for be the first to get her stuff to me! Thanks Sharon! Her cards are beautiful! I can't wait to see what you are making!!!

Do Your Part to Fight the Long Lines..
I have done my job for nearly 16 years now. I am pretty efficient and have streamlined the process quite well in my humble opinion, so trust me when I say I am doing all that I can to move things along. Here are a few things that you can do to help.
  • If you have receipt, give it to me. Making me hunt through three bags of merchandise for it does not make things go faster.
  • If you don't have a receipt, I am going to ask for your ID. NOW would be a good time to start looking for it. (See I am giving you time to look for it while I process your items so that when I need to input it to finish the return we do not have to wait.) By the way, you may have heard me mention this a few hundred times before, it must be a PHOTO ID and it must be VALID.
  • Do not hand me EVERY receipt from the three years with your 20 or so items that you found while you were cleaning the trunk of your car, attic, garage and closet in the spare bedroom. A little organization on your part goes a LONG WAY to helping speed the process.
  • There is a point in time when whatever it is that you bought belongs to YOU and is no longer eligible for return. That time would be 90 days from the day you bought it. So, NO you cannot return the dress you bought on clearance three years ago. It is yours, if you no longer want it I have a few suggestions... Ebay, Goodwill, The Salvation Army, or the garbage all come to mind.
  • If you just stood in line for 10 minutes waiting to buy money orders, do you think you might have a clue as to what amounts you would like them to be? Recalling from memory is not working for you, might I suggest a list?
  • Since you knew you were buying money orders it would be nice if you had a plan on how you are going to pay for them. It isn't hard, you have two choices, CASH or DEBIT with pin. Nope, sorry we don't take checks or credit cards for these.

This rant was brought to you by the lady who called me stupid on Tuesday. I don't wait on people who call me names, so step aside ma'am, who is next in line?

Take care, I promise a more scrappy themed post tomorrow!

whatchamacallits and glue dots

Allow me to introduce you to an old friend! The Hershey's Whatchamacallit candy bar. I haven't seen one in years and now they are on the check outs at Wallywork. Peanutbutter crispy, caramel and chocolate, what more is there really?
I am not sure how many of you were witness to my glue dot melt down of last month. It seemed that Wallywork had decided to no longer sell the Zots glue dots and just with out warning clearanced them and removed them from the modular. This in turn must have caused a general panic and fear of a glue dot shortage, because Michaels was also out of stock on them. I was not happy at all.

*******

Glue dots are my choice of adhesive for ribbons and buttons and many other lumpy items. I always purchased them at Wallywork, since they were less $$ than Michaels, plus you got a bigger box. Well, lo and behold while I was checking out the Martha wall the other day, out of the corner of my eye I spied these Fiskars thin glue dots, in three sizes of thin and one size of thick. I fell to my knees and gave thanks and all was once again well with the world. (Can't you hear the music and see the angels??) I will give them a thorough review and get back to you on what I think of them very soon!

New Scrapping Stuff at Wal-Mart!

(Martha's in the House!)

I was quite surprised to learn we would be carrying a line of Martha Stewart crafting items in our paper crafts area and also in the wedding crafts.
We have cutting systems, punches, border punches, markers, pens, ink pads, acrylic stamps, glitter, glues, paper pads, embellishments, ribbons, albums, album kits, and much more!
You have to stop in and check it all out! I have a wish list as long as my arm!

Take care!

Idlewild!
We went on Friday. Travis did okay, I think he was hurting pretty good until the day was done, but he would not admit to any of that.

Nana and Tyler and Travis waiting for the Howler ride.

Kenny and I spent most of the day with nephew Tyler. Travis took off with the big boys, which was probably better, since I would have been fussing about his foot and crutches and all that, all day.

Looks like he had a good day... youngest nephew.
*******
Nothing much more to say. I did not get to go to the Stamping show in Monroeville and I am a bit bummed. Oh well, I have plans for some of our stimulus money that involves a road trip!

Fractured.
That is the official word from the orthopedic specialist. Although, she was not certain that it was, she felt it best to treat it as one. Travis has an air cast on for two weeks, more resting it, elevating it, putting ice on it and doing some easy movements with it. She did tell him was allowed to take it off and go in the pool, but no jumping in and no weight on it getting out. After that he goes for a re-check. Dr. Sullivan said four to six weeks in the cast with crutches and then some PT if it is healing well.
*******
It is not looking so good for the Idlewild trip on Friday though. Summer camp is likely out too, at
least the one that he likes to go to. They hike on the Laurel Highland trail for a couple of days and then go rafting on the Yough. We are looking in to some other options... wish us some luck!
*******
Anybody going to the Stamp Scrap Art Tour Rubber Stamp Show in Monroeville this weekend? If you go, don't forget to also travel into the city to Stamp Fanci, she has a great sale going on in the back room.

I am also working up a pretty good work related rant...so check back! LOL!

I found these cards while looking for something else the other day. I made them months ago, before Mother's Day, since I can recall working on them at the Speaking of Women's Health event at Wally-work. Just a couple of easy, pretty and fast cards!
We went to DH's company picnic this afternoon. It was nice to visit with the guys he works with and their families. DH works for Creative Pultrusions in Pleasantville. (Hi Joyce! Hi Carolyn!) The food was yummy (wish I could remember the name of the caterer!) Hubby got an embroidered fleece blanket, a mini led flashlight and he won a $25 Sheetz card. Pretty good afternoon!
*******
Travis is doing ok. He pitched a pretty big fit when we wouldn't let him take his splint off and go in the pool today. Other than that he is like a bull in a china shop on those crutches and we are constantly reminding him to prop it up and ice it. Blogger is being a BUTT and I am frustrated, so for now I am signing off, take care!

Can you guess where we just got home from?
Long story, but these are the highlights. We go to visit my cousin Amy and some friends at their camp in Manns Choice. Travis takes his bike. Travis gets tangled in the bike. Travis' ankle swells up like a blowfish and turns purple. Off to the ER we go. We get checked in, they take x-rays and check his ankle and foot. (Oh yeah, I can't forget to mention that Trav's favorite pass time is to ride the bike in the woods were they are logging around our house, so he and the bike are usually covered in mud.) Three hours later we are home. The ER Dr. didn't see any fracture, but since the growth plates are still open we will see an orthopedist on Monday.

Take care, I am going to bed!

For Teacher
My cousin Joshua's wife Brianna was just hired as a teacher. This is her first full time teaching position and we are just thrilled for her! She will be teaching first grade at a school that she has been substitute teaching at regularly for the past year. I made a little gift bag for her with some teacher goodies in it. I included rolls of stickers, a note pad, some school printed loot bags, a bunch of stamps that say things like 100%, Good Job, Please Finish, and some of these sweet little notecards. The inside says "From the Desk of Mrs. Y"
*******
The black board pattern paper is DCWV from a Fall Stack. Stamped image is a wood mounted stamp that I found at the Dollar Tree. Scallop ovals are Marvy punches. Ribbon is from my massive collection.
*******
I think that these notecards would make a nice gift for any teacher in your life!
*******
On a side note, I ate ENTIRELY TOO MUCH today. We had a pretty good day, inspite of the less than lovely weather. I will try to post some pictures tomorrow.

Christmas cards in July!

So I am kind of really enjoying this swapping thing. (Except for the panic two days before the stuff is due when I get the GREAT IDEA!) Since my card makers day was originally to be "Christmas Cards in July" and we got bumped up to June I am hosting a Christmas themed card swap here on Everyday Blessings. Details are as follows...

  • 5 spots available (actually 4 since I plan to participate)
  • Each person makes 10 cards, 5 each of 2 designs (does that make sense?)
  • Please put a sentiment inside the card.
  • Include an envelope for your cards (decorated would be nice!)
  • Give the back of your card your mark.
  • No Vendor Requirement, anything goes! I know I will be dazzled and amazed with your talents as always!
  • Sign up for a spot by July 7.
  • Cards due to me by July 28, I will mail back to you promptly after receiving all cards.
  • Please send your cards in a zipper bag to be sure it all stays dry.
  • Include an addressed return envelope with the same amount of postage it took to mail your cards, plus a few extra stamps (loose so they can be returned to you if they are not needed.)
  • A little something *special* will be included for the first cards received!

So ladies... who out there wants to get a head start on their Christmas cards? Reserve your space by letting a comment here on the blog!

My Card Candy is DONE!
In a moment of complete insanity I signed up to for Barb's Card Candy swap a while back. Fast forward to today, two days before it is due to be in her hands... yes, I am a procrastinator! Not quite as bad as my own card swap at the card makers day, though, where I was finishing them that very day. I think this swapping is fun, but I am a gal who works better under pressure, and I don't get some of my ideas until I am completely under the gun.
I am anxious to see what everyone else has made for the swap!

I'm not getting crap accomplished...LOL! I guess that is what vacation is all about! Bible School is all done, but for the closing program tonight. We made some pretty neat crafts this year. Glow in the dark comet balls, and windsocks from two liter soda bottles, refrigerator photo magnets from AOL CD's. I am a recycler when it comes to kids crafty stuff.
*******
I don 't have much to say today. I have to get hopping on my card candy for Barb M's swap. It is due on July 1 and I haven't done much for it yet. YIKES! I work well under pressure, thankfully!
*******
A few summer tidbits... whoever mentioned using a Reese's PB Cup on a s'more in place of the Hershey bar... Oh DEAR LORD was it wonderful! I don't remember who said it, but if you've never tried it you should!
*******
If you are a campfire lover here is another good one... Take a plain old Krispie Kreme (glazed with a hole in the middle) and stuff a marshmallow in the hole. Put it all on your camp fork and toast it over the fire. The donut gets warm, the glaze gets sticky, the marshmallow gets toasty and gooey and it allllll gets super yummy.

Anybody going to do any of the Thunder in the Valley activities this weekend? My guys usually go... not my scene, too noisy, too hot (usually), and wayyyyy to crowded for me.

Hi Tracy! I baked my bread!

At the Carding Bee Tracy gave me an Amish Friendship Bread starter. Yesterday was baking day (Shhh! I was a day late, no one needs to know!) I didn't have chocolate pudding and had to go buy some! Thanks for that tip, I think it was Kathy that shared that one. My guys were all grossed out by the process of letting it sit on the counter for like ten days, but I guess they worked out their issues since there is only about a half of a loaf left.

*******

I gave my "starters" to my friends Angie & Brieanna, and to my sisters Lynnette and Abby.

There is a little store in Hooversville called Country Bargains. Let me tell you there are quite a few bargains there at the moment! I picked up all of this stuff yesterday.... Motts Hot Apple Cider in Granny Smith, Caramel, Original, and Hot Apple Pie flavors 10 packets for $1. Land O Lakes Cocoa Packets in Supreme, French Vanilla, Caramel, Hazelnut, Raspberry four for $1. Bigelow and Lipton flavored teas 99 cents a box. Ghiardelli Squares 60% Cacao and White Mint 99 cents a bag!

*******

I couldn't believe the great deals I got yesterday! I plan to use most of these to make cards that I will sell at my Heritage Festival Booth in September. I do a booth that has a make and take station and also will be selling handmade cards this year.

The last of the Talented Ladies work on display!
This card is from my BS1, Barb M and she is just nuts about the Tart and Tangy stamp set from Stampin' Up! (She's a consultant as well and posts the best projects on Babbie Blogs!) I have to say that I have used the set as well and I really like it too! The inside says "wish big" super cute and summery!
You gotta love the lady bugs! The card above is Kathy's from over at The 3 E's.
It is a secret though that she hand stitched all the cards, since she never sews, so don't tell her hubby!

Love the bugs again! This sweet one is from Barb R and I think it is just adorable! I have to get out my lady bugs and stamp up a storm! Bugs and kisses is such a cute sentiment, right up there with my favorite "Hogs and Kisses" for my piggy die cut!
This one is mine. I just had to have the little Dr. Phil looking stamp. The sentiment inside says "Chocolate, it's cheaper than therapy." and there is a Russell Stover's {Private Reserve} chocolate square in the inside pocket. I wish the stamp set also came with a few other Dr. Phil-isms like "How's that workin' for ya?" and the like. LOL!

*******
I have to thank the ladies once again, they all made such creative and beautiful cards! I can't wait to get together and make cards with them all again! (I am thinking of World Card Making Day, the first Saturday in October, depending on if the date is available.)

The work of more talented ladies is on display again today!
Lori made this pretty card. She made each of her cards unique, so if you don't have one like it in your collection that is because this one was made JUST FOR ME! (just kidding!) I just love the colors she used, the are so bright and cheerful and fresh! The inside says "Inspire" What a wonderful card to send someone who needs some encouragement!
I have to tell you that I am going to tear this card that Joyce made apart so that I can figure out how to make some more of them! I just love it! The inside is just a cool with this great sentiment...
In this greeting
there's a special wish for you,
A wish that this, your special day,
is happy through and through.
And as you read this message,
I hope you'll smile a bit,
and think of all the loving thoughts
that come along with it.
Happy Birthday!

The scan of this card just doesn't do it justice. This was one that the scanner got super weird on. Those larger posies are really a very deep rich orange color and so are some of the stripes. I am sorry Carolyn that it didn't scan true. I will be sending this one to a friend of mine this week! I have never used ric-rack on a card and I love the look. I have some in my stash and you inspired me to try it out!

*******
Bible school started this evening and we have a record number of kids (which is absolutely fabulous!) Crafts were super crazy tonight! I will have to go buy some more supplies for crafts tomorrow! I have to remember to take my kitchen timer so that I can set it for each group so we have time to clean up and set for the next group!

Sharing My Friend's Creativity
Since I have no pictures to share of the Carding Bee I will share the next best thing, the beautiful cards that the ladies made for our card exchange. I will have three today, three tomorrow and four the following day. Hopefully I will get the right person with each card, if I don't let me know so I can correct it! My scanner turned some of the colors a wee bit funky, not sure what is up with that. I also scanned the envelopes if they were also decorated.
Sharon's Spirelli Card
I love how she embossed the background paper! The inside says this...
There's a miracle called Friendship
that dwells within the heart,
and you don't know how it happened
or when it got its start.
But the happiness it brings you
always gives a special lift,
then you realize that friendship
is God's precious, loving gift.

Tina's Hanna Riley Moose on a tractor just cracks me up! Every time I look at it I start singing Kenny Chesney's "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" and even better is that the inside says "HAY YOU!" Riley has quite the gallery over at SCS, just type in Riley Moose and you can see him hundreds of times. I just know I am going to have to get me some Riley's!

Tracy's Beautiful Butterfly Thank You card. I just love that I have a card with that butterfly on it. I had that stamp in my hands at least a half dozen times before deciding I didn't need another butterfly stamp, but now I am so sorry I passed on it.

My Old Faithful Kodak Easyshare CX4300
She is a good old camera. Bought her when a 3.2 MP camera was a top of the line digital camera. (I know that was all of about 8 years ago or so, LOL!) I wasn't so sure about all of this crazy digital technology and all. I actually had her almost a year and didn't take but a handful of pictures with her. I started to warm up to her after taking her to a few concerts. BonJovi was were we cemented our relationship and I was hooked. He worst feature is that awful on/off slide switch on the front. I can't tell you what exactly it is about it, but for a while it didn't work quite right, but after a few threats and such she her act together and started doing what she was supposed to do.
She's been through quite a bit. I have dropped her more than once. The evidence of that can be seen by the broken door where the memory card goes and also by the scotch tape that it takes to keep the battery door shut. I thought she was going to die after some Medstar landing dust got into the lens. She eats batteries like nobody's business.
Here is the other sad feature of this nearly ancient camera. How is that for an LCD display, a whopping 1.5 inches. Another quality of the early digital camera that drove me nuts, but I learned to accomodate it was the shutter delay. Boy does she have some delay, but we got used to it! It also only had digital zoom, 2X, but I have to tell you that I love this camera and I went back and forth over whether or not I was going to replace her anytime soon.
*******
She has taken pictures of brand new babies, weddings, first days of kindergarten, graduations, bikes, flowers, my hand when it was hurt, birthdays, dances, proms, homecomings, headstones, car accidents, my cakes, my cards and scrapbook pages, concerts, amusement parks, Medstar landings, firetrucks, parades, festivals, holidays, and so much more. She fits so nicely in my purse and has gone nearly everywhere with me. I think Kenny tells people that I don't go to the bathroom without my camera. (Really that isn't true, but I do have a few potty photos... there is nothing funnier than trying to pee while trying to keep a wedding gown out of a toilet.)
*******
So, here is the point I am getting at. It was time. I took the plunge once again to buy a camera. So she will be spending her days now, most likely in the glove box of the car ready for when she is needed. DH wants to be able to take pictures of the deer he sees on his way home from work in the mornings.
*******
She has been replaced by newer, faster, bigger and maybe better, that remains to be seen. I am certainly brand loyal in regard to digital cameras, with DH's blessing I bought a Kodak Easyshare Z812 IS. I don't think I love her like the old girl, but time will tell.

Vacation! (and not a minute too soon!)
*******
Let's see... first order of business, sleep in! Check that one off the list, I slept until 10:30 AM!
*******
Next, cook something for dinner.... Got that one under control as well. Meatloaf (one of my favorites is in the oven as I type this.) There is also a pan of brownies in there too, I hate to turn the oven on for just one thing. There will be some garlic mashed taters and salad to go with as well.
*******
This week is Bible School at my church and I am the crafty lady, so I am getting my crafts together for that as well. Our theme is Cosmic SuperMart SuperNova. Lots of space age type crafty things coming your way! I am messing with glo in the dark paint at the moment and also trying to see if my sizzix will cut through a CD. I will let you know how that one works out for me!

What a GREAT DAY!
So, the Carding Bee was this past Saturday! We had a wonderful time. The cards posted here today are the rest of the make and takes that we made. There is one other item that I will post pics of later.
Just want to say HI! to the Bedford Gals, Sharon and Lori and thank them for coming and supporting the event. The first one is always the toughest, and then it gets easier from there! Hopefully I can get one organized for the fall, I have to check for available dates on the Camp calendar. I have so many ideas for awesome make and takes!

A Sneak Peek!

Hi! This is one of the cards we are making next Saturday at the Carding Bee at Camp Harmony! The monogram is from a new line from K & Co. All the products are made from recycled paper. They are available in monochromatic packs of 12 x12 cardstock, 4 x6 mats, chipboard alphas, and something else that is just escaping me right now!
*******
I have spent so many hours in the car this weekend, that I don't care if I ever get back into it again! Friday was Melanie's graduation in Pittsburgh. I have to say I was absolutely amazed at how organized it was and how fast it went. They graduated 450 students in 1 hour and 2o minutes. It took us that long for 50 here at Shade High School. They announced each student's name and presented their diplomas individually. My DH is in complete denial that his baby girl has grown up, it is so cute to watch the two of them.

The Grad! She is so sweet, she took her bouquet apart and presented roses to her Mom, and me and her Grandmother.

*******
I will have an email going out to my Carding Bee ladies very soon! I am so excited to be able to get together, it is going to be a small gathering and you will have to put up with ME all day!
Take care!

Tuesday, June 03, 2008

Since you all seem to love my observations about my customers, I thought I could start a weekly feature... I do need a catchy name for this feature, so leave a comment with your creative suggestion!
So for today we have the crazy parking lot lady...

Her complaint is that there is some guy (or woman, she is not really sure, heck it could have been those wild animals from that hybrid car commercial driving) out in the lot in a red car (that should be really easy to find?) who is committing the grave offense of waiting for someone else to back out of a parking space that he wants. Now of course this is happening in the middle of the day, quite a busy time. This offender has traffic backed up the entire way down the aisle, but quite honestly folks I am not so sure what I am supposed to do about this. Can someone please inform me of the newly passed law or rule that you are no longer permitted to wait to get a Sweet Parking Spot. I know that there must be one since the lady standing in front of me is just fuming mad about the whole situation. I guess I should add to my duties "traffic cop" and get out there in lot and start policing the situation, that is unless I can convince the powers that be that valet parking is a wonderful idea!

Have a lovely day!

Take care!

Hiya Everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend. I didn't accomplish much. Grocery shopped, went to a Strawberry Festival and we met friends last evening for karaoke and had a great time. (I just don't deal with the smoke so well, so I have felt crappy pretty much today.) For lack of something better to blog about, I got this email to share Four things... so here goes...

Four, Four, Four, Four...

Four places that I go to over and over: Wal-mart (unfortunately), Dollar General, Knecht's Laundromat, the ATM.

Four people who e-mail me (regularly): Cousin Amy, Sister Lynnette, Friends Sharon and Barb

My favorite places to eat: Main Moon, Goal Line Tavern, Coney Island, Primanti Brother's

Four places I would rather be right now: Would you believe that I am such a terrible homebody that I don't really care to go anywhere at all most of the time. I guess the only thing I would really rather do is NOT go to work. LOL!

Four TV shows I watch all the time: Diners Drive Inns & Dives, Cold Case, Burn Notice, Army Wives

I am working on a new weekly feature.... not sure what day it will be, but apparently you all love to hear my rant about my crazy customers, so I have decided to pick one story a week to share with you all! Check back soon!

Take Care!
